-ACI- AntiCheat Inc | Public Trolling Guide v1.0.4 (November 11, 2005)

PBSS Trolling (Short for patrolling) and log reporting are the two single-most important means of identifying and catching a cheater. Where our cvar and whitelist violations are streamed to us, reviewed and then submitted to the kick logs, for addition to the MBL, PBSS Trolling allows an individual to identify cheaters who have entered a server which does not run cvar scripts, or scripts capable of detecting such a bot, but leave behind obvious visual indicators.

First, the basics to locating a PBSS on a server. There are two ways, using a third party tool or directly through an internet browser. The fastest method when you know what or who you're looking for is to access the image by the remote URL. Depending on the server host, there may be a special consideration when checking PBSS - remember that people hosting from their house may not support public PBSS viewing with a webserver. Please check the below table for information on various gamehosters which not only provide public viewing but also have prevented PBSS folder uploads.
* - Below means that all IP numbers at that range are included. 8.2.0.* means that 8.2.0.0 to 8.2.0.255 is allowed.

Visual Indicators

"Visual Indicators" consist of just about everything that you can find on a PBSS with the exception of Name Changers and similar PBSS Blockers. Essentially, a visual bot consists of anything with on-screen effects designed to add illegal advantage such as Glowhacks, Skinhack, ESP, Wireframe, Distance and Target Data, etc.

PBSS Bot Identification

Visual Indicator - ESP
Simply put, ESP is the term used to describe bots which are capable of identifying enemy weapons, locations, names, and tracking grenades, 203s as well as dangers in the level. Please review the following images for ESP examples.

As you can see from the above images, the cheaters in question are capable of seeing the locations of the enemy, as well as distance and angle, or as seen below, the health of their teammates and the location of the objective.

Visual Indicator - Skinhack/WeaponESP and Wireframe

Skinhack and wireframe bots effectively allow a cheater to see friendlies and enemies 'better', through the use of colored models (Skinhack) and or the wireframe render. The other players are easily seen further, faster and better providing an unfair advantage over other players.

Visual Indicator - Glowhack

Fairly uncommon on its own nowadays, glowhacks are somewhat harder to discern on an image. At first glance, it may be ambient lighting - the key to identifying these is to look at the players surrounding: Should that glow be there? The second step is to check other screenshots to see if it happens again and if there are any signs that it is a graphics bug (Which is usually suggested to be debated on the forums.) Glowhacks allow cheaters to see enemies coming around corners by the glow, as well as see them 'easier' against the background (In dark maps, this would make things very advantageous).

Visual Indicator - Invalid Crosshair

Invalid crosshairs, often included by many popular bots do not appear to have any real function other than visual aesthetics, and signalling of a bot. Usually, they'll be evident from crosshairs of non-natural colors (Crosshairs in front of an enemy will be red, green by friendly and yellow ALL other times. Never blue or any other color.)

Please remember that images like these are valid as this is the Stryker from SF Arctic.

Visual Indicator - Wallhack

Wallhacks are commonly used to not only view an enemy far away through a wall or door, but to also see what the player is doing. This provides the unfair advantage of allowing people to time their attacks just right and know exactly where to shoot as they engage, allowing them to kill the enemy with maximum ease.

Some wallhacks are not so obvious...

Visual Indicator - Radar

Radar provides a cheater with the ability to see the locations of friendlies and enemies on their screen either through dots or "lines" reaching out to targets. This may be accompanied with other visuals but provide the cheater with the ability to track down enemies without other clutter.

Visual Indicator - Menus

Bot menus provide the cheater with the ability to manage the advanced functions of his bot, as well as configure and save the settings.

PBSS Common Bugs

PBSS Render Bug - Crosshairs

Often, PB fails to render a crosshair properly, usually as a result of Sample Rate 2, due to the loss of pixels, half of a crosshair may be missing, or it may appear overly rounded.

However, don't confuse a large, blurry and red crosshair with a bot - the following is an example of an M4. Check for "zoom in" effects, distortion typical to a scope and the outline of the scope on the screen.

PBSS Render Bug - Graphics Bugs

These issues are caused by overheating cards, lower end systems and graphical malfunctions either in the engine or game. Sometimes, the effect may appear like a wallhack, reduced fog or have discoloration.

AA Windowed Mode

Some players play in windowed mode to converse on MSN, or be able to go to and fro on their desktop without having to tab out.

Teamspeak Overlay

Teamspeak Overlay is an excellent program designed to allow you to view other individuals on your Teamspeak, currently in the channel with you talking. Often, TSO is confused with bot menus and ESP indicators.

Xfire

XFire is a player tracking tool which allows in-game chatting, server IP retrieval for any game and applications such as Teamspeak, and also provides the ability to read and receive messages while playing without tabbing out.
